Product details

Clematis 'Issey' is a compact, free-flowering deciduous climber producing masses of red flowers lightly tinted purple from early midsummer through late autumn. This Raymond J. Evison hybrid reaches just 1-1.5 metres in height, making it perfect for small gardens, patios, containers, and wall borders. Blooms emerge abundantly from July through September in full sun or partial shade. Plant in moist but well-drained soil with the base kept cool and shaded by other plants; plant the crown 5-8cm deep to encourage basal shoots from underground. This is a Pruning Group 3 clematis—the easiest option, requiring a hard prune in late February or March, cutting all stems back to 15-30cm above soil level. It is a greedy feeder and benefits from regular fertilization during the growing season. Provide firm framework support such as a trellis or obelisk to prevent wind damage. Hardy throughout the UK (H6), it tolerates chalk, clay, loam, and sandy soils equally well. Not pet-safe; keep away from dogs and cats.
