THE FINER DETAILS

Product details

Crushed stone resin chess pieces. Striking russet brown and cream colouring Superb detail. Matched perfectly with a deluxe walnut board. The expert craftsmen of Berkeley Chess have recreated the imperious atmosphere of Rome with this classical chess set, matched with a Spanish walnut board. The Roman civilisation dates from the 8th century BC. Developing into the city of Rome and subsequently giving its name to the Empire over which it ruled, the Roman Empire expanded into one of the largest in the ancient world, and through the many centuries of its existence, evolved from a monarchy to a classical republic, to an autocratic empire. The Romans have contributed to modern law, politics, government, art, literature, warfare, technology, society, language and religion. This empire also achieved incredible architectural and engineering feats with the construction of an extensive network of roads and aqueducts as well as large monuments, palaces and public facilities. The details of each chess piece are as follows: King: Julius Caesar. Queen: A Lady of noble birth in typical dress. Bishop: A Standard Bearer carrying the insignia of the Legion. Knight: Equestrian soldier of the period. Rook: A Roman garrison tower. Pawn: Armed Legionnaire of the period.
