Skimmia japonica Kew Green (XL)

Skimmia japonica ‘Kew Green’ is a compact, evergreen shrub grown primarily for its abundant, fragrant clusters of creamy white flowers in spring, which are preceded by attractive green flower buds through winter. With a neat, rounded habit and glossy dark green foliage, it provides reliable year-round structure and seasonal colour.
As a male Skimmia variety, ‘Kew Green’ does not produce berries, but it is valued as a superb pollinator for female cultivars such as Skimmia japonica ‘Nymans’, ‘Reevesiana’, or ‘Pabella’. Planting ‘Kew Green’ nearby ensures good berry production on female varieties, making it an important choice for gardeners who want reliable winter berries. Compact and shade-loving, it thrives in woodland-style borders, mixed shrub plantings, or decorative containers, and pairs well with hellebores, ferns, or heucheras for seasonal contrast.
