Consolea rubescens (Pot Size 9cm) Road Kill Cactus

Consolea rubescens is a distinctive tree-like succulent cactus with flattened, paddle-shaped stems and a unique bumpy appearance earning the common name Road Kill Cactus. Native to the Caribbean, this virtually spineless cactus features olive-green pads with delicate hair-like glochids and produces small yellow-orange flowers in spring followed by striking red edible fruits.Plant in bright, direct sunlight for six to eight hours daily to maintain its compact, characteristic shape and encourage flowering. Water sparingly using the soak-and-dry method: water thoroughly until it drains, then allow the soil to dry completely before watering again. Overwatering is the primary threat, leading to root rot. Use well-draining cactus or succulent compost with 70-80% mineral grit (sand, pumice, or perlite). This tropical Caribbean native requires protection from temperatures below 0°C and thrives between 20°C and 35°C. Average household humidity is fine; misting is not needed. Feed with diluted cactus fertilizer monthly during spring and summer only. An extremely easy-care plant requiring minimal maintenance, Consolea rubescens is ideal for bright windowsills and grows well in containers with drainage holes.
