Hand crafted in the UK. Stunning attention to detail. Towering 7.6-inch king. Solid crushed stone resin pieces. Heavy, well-balanced set. This charming and unique resin set is the largest chess set that we offer, by a long way! With a towering 7.6-inch high king, it doesn't get much more impressive than this! The fables of Reynard the Fox are among the longest-established literary traditions in Western history, with even Geoffrey Chaucer basing some of his writing on them. Reynard, the Fox himself, ties the various tales together, which comprise beasts satirically taking the places of various human character tropes. These humorous tales have proven so popular that the word 'Renard' has replaced the word for fox in French. Although he is cowardly and self-seeking, Reynard himself is a sympathetic hero and a strikingly accurate mirror of the human condition. The master craftsmen at Berkeley Chess in Somerset, UK have taken these beloved and charming characters and adapted them into this wonderful chess set, finished with a unique, pewter and copper metallic colouring.
