A compact Japanese maple perfect for UK gardens. Acer palmatum 'Shaina' displays stunning seasonal foliage: bright red in spring, deepening to rich maroon-red through summer before brightening to vivid crimson in autumn. This slow-growing, dense cultivar features an upright, globe-shaped habit, reaching 2.5-4m at maturity, making it ideal for smaller gardens and containers. The plant is H6 hardy, suitable throughout most of the UK and northern Europe, and requires little to no pruning. Best foliage colour develops in partial shade, though it tolerates full sun. Requires moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and benefits from shelter from harsh winds. Water during dry summers to prevent leaf scorch. Excellent choice for informal, cottage, urban, and Japanese-style gardens, as well as patio containers and borders.
